The Tour in My Voice

Hunting in Tromsø is not just about the bird, it’s about getting out and being part of nature. This tour is designed for travelers who want something authentic: a chance to join a local guide in the mountains, away from paths and crowds, and take part in a tradition deeply rooted in Norwegian life.

As we move through the terrain, I’ll teach you to find the places where grouse gather. You’ll learn about the techniques, the rhythm of the hunt, and the respect for nature that defines it. Guests will not carry or use firearms; the guide is responsible for the shooting. Instead, you’ll join every step of the process, observing, learning, and experiencing the moments that make up a real hunt.

If successful, you can choose: bring the bird back to enjoy as dinner, taste it as a simple mountain snack, or let your guide bring it home. Either way, you’ll leave with memories of a true Arctic tradition.

Itinerary

Morning Pick-Up in Tromsø
We start early in the morning with pickup at your accommodation. From there, we drive to the highlands outside the city.

Mountain Hike & Hunt
The hike takes us off the path and into the wild. Expect uneven terrain and a moderate level of physical activity. As we move, we search for grouse, read signs in the landscape, and share knowledge of wildlife.

Hunting Experience
Your guide carries the rifle and does the shooting, but you’ll be part of the decisions, the movements, and the observation of wildlife. This gives you a safe and immersive experience of hunting without needing a license or firearm.

Outdoor Meal & Rest
Around midday we pause for lunch, warm drinks, and time to take in everything. Depending on success, the grouse can be prepared as a quick snack on the mountain or brought back for a proper dinner in Tromsø.

Return to Tromsø
After 5–7 hours in the highlands, we return to Tromsø with both stories and, hopefully, the taste of fresh game.
