The Tour in My Voice
Our Drive Along The Coast
A relaxed 6-hour fjord journey in a small group, following the coastline around Kvaløya.
Meeting in Tromsø – 09:00
We start the day in central Tromsø, where you meet me and the rest of the small group (max 7 guests). After a short hello and a quick overview of the day, we get settled into the Mercedes 4×4 and head out along the coast.
Leaving the City & First Fjord Views
As we drive out of Tromsø, the city slowly gives way to open sea, islands and sharp mountain peaks. The total driving time for the day is around 2 hours and 10 minutes, but it never feels long – the other 4 hours of the day go to regular stops for photos, stories and small walks.
Along the way, I’ll point out old farms, fishing villages and places that have shaped life in this part of Norway, sharing a mix of local history, culture and personal memories.
Scenic Stops, Stories & Wildlife
We start our drive along the south side of Kvaløya, for views of farms, cultural landscapes, amazing mountain views and to have the best chances of seeing wildlife. We stop whenever the light, weather or landscape calls for it. Some stops are for wide, open views; others are for cultural sights or quiet little spots that most people just drive past.
We keep an eye out for reindeer, sea eagles, and – if we’re lucky – otters or other wildlife. The exact stops change with the season and weather, so no two days are exactly the same.
Lunch with a View at Sommarøy
Around the middle of the day, we stop for lunch at Sommarøy or a similar scenic spot overlooking the sea.
You’ll get fresh sandwiches made with local ingredients, served with hot drinks and snacks. This is usually a slow, relaxed break: time to enjoy the view, breathe, and just be present in the landscape.
Exploring, Short Walks & Photography
After lunch, we continue exploring along the northern side of Kvaløya, where we get great views of the fjords and the amazing mountain landscape of the island. Sometimes we take short walks in the snow or down to the shoreline, sometimes we just step out for a few quiet minutes and some photos.
I’ll help with photography on your phone or camera if you want, and we’ll adjust the pace to the group, the weather and the light. The aim is not to rush from stop to stop, but to actually feel the places we visit.
Return to Tromsø – Around 15:30
In the afternoon, we slowly make our way back towards Tromsø, with a final few stops if time and light allow. We usually return to the city around 15:30, after roughly 6 hours together.
Information Before Booking
Your Lunch on the Fjords
For this tour, lunch is a simple, good sandwich built on ingredients you actually find in Tromsø – lamb, potatoes, onion and seasonal extras – put together in a way that’s hearty without being heavy.
The bread comes from Søstrene Ingebrigtsen, a small butcher and deli in the city centre that has been serving fresh meat, delicacies and baked goods to locals for decades. Their bread has the kind of flavour and texture you only get from a place that really cares about what they make.
We keep the lunch relaxed and unfussy: real local produce, good bread, hot drinks and a view of the sea. It should feel more like eating with someone who lives here than a standard tour meal.
Your Fjord Lunch
Lunch on this tour is a fresh sandwich made with local ingredients – lamb, potatoes, onion and simple sides – the kind of food people here actually eat, not a dressed-up tourist version.
The bread is baked by Søstrene Ingebrigtsen in Tromsø, a cosy butcher and deli known for good meat, deli items and proper baked goods. Their bread gives the sandwich a soft crumb and a real, homemade feel.
We serve it with hot drinks and snacks in a scenic spot, so you can enjoy the view, warm up, and just sit for a moment in the middle of the day’s fjord adventure.
Wildlife & Animal Sightings
Along the fjords and coastal roads around Tromsø, we often share the day with local wildlife – from reindeer grazing along the shoreline to sea eagles circling above.
These animals move on their own terms, so nothing is guaranteed, but we always keep our eyes open and slow down when there’s something worth seeing.
The video below gives a small taste of the kind of encounters we may have on the road, without disturbing the animals or chasing them too closely.
Good To Know
This is a small group tour with a maximum of 7 guests in the vehicle.
Keeping the group small makes it easier to stop for photos, adjust the day to weather and light, and have real conversations rather than feeling like you’re on a big bus tour.
The fjords are beautiful in all kinds of weather – from calm, blue-sky days to dramatic storms rolling in from the ocean.
We drive on regular roads in a comfortable 4×4, and the route is adjusted to the conditions of the day. Some of the most memorable days are when the weather is a bit wild, so don’t worry if the forecast doesn’t say “perfect”.
Dress in warm, layered clothing suitable for being outside by the sea: base layers, a warm sweater, windproof/waterproof jacket, comfortable trousers and good shoes or boots.
A hat and gloves are recommended in the colder months, and you’re very welcome to bring your own camera or phone for photos – I’m happy to help you capture a few good shots along the way.
